Tourism Continues to be Leading Industry in Wisconsin

The state Department of Tourism has released its economic impact figures for 2013. Portage County and Vilas County show visitor spending increased by nearly four percent.

Visitors spent $104.3 million in Portage County in 2013, the second year in a row that traveler expenditures topped $100 million in the county, according to figures released today by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.

Visitors spent $203.1 million in Vilas County in 2013, up 3.95% from 2012. Tourism spending also helped account for 1,948 jobs in 2013.

Statewide, visitor spending reached $10.8 billion in 2013, a 4.4% increase over the $10.4 billion spent in 2012.

The Department of Tourism worked with research firms Longwoods International and Tourism Economics to produce the annual report.
