Tips to Get Your Kids Ready for Back to School

Getting kids back into school-mode can be challenging as their minds are still on summer vacation. NewsChannel 7 spoke with the United Way's Early Years Coalition Vice Chair Julie Burmesch to get some tips to help get your young students in the right mindset.

She said parents need to start adjusting their child's sleep schedule early so your child can get used to their new school routine and out of the more relaxed summer schedule.

Getting your child to their school's open house make sure they are prepared with where their classroom is, who their teacher is, get their school supplies together as well as just be comfortable for the first day of school.

Burmesch also added that if your child has special needs, it is important to spend a little extra time talking them through what is going to happen on that first day.

For the first day of school, she said to send your child off with positive thoughts and do not bring up negative things that happened the previous year.
