The Wausau Lyric Choir has set the dates for their annual Christmas concert, "Christmas in the Southwest." Two performances will take place Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 406 Grant St., Wausau. The Saturday concert will be at 7:30 pm and the Sunday concert at 3 pm.

"Christmas in the Southwest" will feature Conrad Susa's "Carols and Lullabies - Christmas in the Southwest," a collection of traditional Spanish carols Susa arranged. The work pulls together 10 carols sung in Spanish and is accompanied by classical guitar, harp, and marimba.

The Wausau Lyric Choir is directed by Lucinda J. Thayer, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Past President of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association. "I've put together a combination of 'old' and 'new' music selections for our Christmas concert," she said. "The 'new' is the 'Carols and Lullabies' by Conrad Susa, and the 'old' is a variety of selections from the folk tradition, spirituals, and Renaissance period.

Tickets for "Christmas in the Southwest" are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and are available through the Performing Arts Foundation, 401 N. 4th St., Wausau, (715) 842-0988, and at the door.

More information about the Choir and its season can be found on their website: www.wausaulyricchoir.com.

Piano accompanist for the Wausau Lyric Choir is Ann Applegate, piano instructor at the Wausau Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County. Guest musicians for "Christmas in the Southwest" are Rosie Gilbert, harp; Brianna Trainor, marimba; and Nathan Wysock, guitar.

The Choir is an ecumenical community choir of adults dedicated to excellence in the performance of sacred choral music and is a Performing Arts Foundation affiliate. The audition-only choir was founded in 1972 and has performed throughout Wisconsin and appeared nationally and internationally.
