Investigators are trying to figure out who's been breaking into an airport hanger in Lincoln County and stealing tools and fuel.
The owners believe the break-ins happened sometime in the past month. Each time, hangar doors were kicked in. Some of the more expensive items stolen include aviation fuel from planes and specialized tools. Pilots say the items aren't cheap, and they want them back.
Luke Schunk, one of the pilots who had their hangar broken into says, “As we were looking around we were noticing 28 volt battery charges, things that wouldn’t be of use to most people, and allot of tools, and then it wasn’t until we looked at the other hanger that we noticed fuel missing. We noticed about 100 gallons of fuel missing out of a couple of planes there."
They estimate more than 200 gallons of fuel was taken, worth about $1500. Since aviation fuel can't be used in cars, pilots think whoever stole it must want it for some sort of racing.
A $1,000 award is being offered for any information about the thefts.
