The term "fisherman" undoubtedly conjures up images of men. However this weekend's Musky Expo at the Patriot Center proves that fishing is something that both men and woman can enjoy.
Brenda Detloff co-owns a Northwoods fishing resort with her husband. She feels that fishing is a way for many women to show off their strength.
"Because the fish are big they think we can't handle it. However, you would be surprised." Detloff said.
One woman we talked with is capitalizing on the increase of women starting to fish. She started a family business called Chic Bait Tackle based in Rothschild. The business started after her husband made a deal with their daughter when trying to get her to give fishing a try.
"She would only fish with a pink lure so he said OK I will make you a pink lure if you will go fishing with me. It got the family involved. That is how we started our business." said owner Heidi Bartlett
Without question, this year's expo has done more to remind people that fishing is something that is fun for everyone.
