The culprit of the concerning walkie-talkie message on Monday at a Plover school, was none other than a conversation between staff during another school's fire drill.

Yesterday a teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School heard a suspicious message during lunch recess on her walkie-talkie.

The statement alarmed administrators and they brought students inside immediately, locked the doors, called police and alerted parents.

In an email to parents from the Roosevelt's Principal, McKinley Elementary School in Stevens Point was conducting an unannounced fire drill during its lunch recess the same time the transmission was heard. It began when students were on the playground in order to simulate a real-life scenario.

At about 1:00 p.m. the principal cued his custodian to pull the fire alarm by using the code phrase, "The 5th and 6th graders are on the playground. It's time to mix it up."

A re-enactment was arranged today at about the same and in the same locations with the same walkie-talkies. The test confirmed that this did, indeed, happen.
