UPDATE: Fri 9:42 AM, Aug 16, 2013

Wausau police say one person is in custody after a high speed chase that covered some of the city's busiest streets Thursday evening.

Police tell us it started at about 7 pm as they tried to pull a vehicle over on Thomas St. in Wausau on suspicion of drug activity.

But the vehicle took off, leading officers on a chase over some busy streets including Grand Ave. and Thomas St.

It came to an end when the car went off the road and into a ditch at the corner of Kersten and Wilderness in the Town of Weston.

One person ran off, but was found a short time later. Police say they used pepper spray to help apprehend him. The suspect was arrested on charges of fleeing and reckless endangerment. Police say he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in Brown County.

Two other people in the vehicle were not arrested.

The officer we talked with did not know if drugs were found in the car.

Police say this is not related to a chase earlier in the day and the suspect in that case, 24-year-old Peter Yang is still at large.

Unconfirmed reports have one person in custody after a police chase that went through the Wausau area.

NewsChannel 7 reporter Ryan Burk at the scene on Kersten Rd. or County SS in Weston says he sees several police squads and a vehicle that's gone into the ditch.

According to scanner traffic, a suspect is 10-95 or in custody.

Marathon County Sheriff's Department dispatchers have not confirmed any reports.

Earlier in the day, Wausau police reported they were looking for 24-year-old Peter Yang. They had tried to pull him over for a traffic violation, but he ditched the car and ran off at the corner of Adams and 5th. Officers say Yang is wanted on several warrants.

Police say they found a stolen weapon when searching the car. There's no word if this chase is connected to that incident.

Ryan will keep us posted and we're making calls back here at the station.
