The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is asking for assistance identifying a person who is believed to have stolen and crashed an ATV early Sunday morning in the Town of Merrill.
A passerby found the crashed ATV at 1:20 a.m. at the corner of County Road K and Pope Road. The witness also saw the suspected driver fleeing from the scene into the woods.
Deputies found evidence showing the ATV first crashed on County Road K near Duginski Road before being abandoned at Pope Road.
The owners of the 2006 Polaris say their ATV had been parked at their farm on County Road K, just north of Merrill. Deputies don't know how the thief managed to steal it, since the owners still had the key.
The suspect may be injured from the crash.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the sheriff's office at 715-536-6272 or Crime Stoppers at 715-536-3726. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash award.
