School buses in Wisconsin Rapids are full after Thursday's "Stuff the School Bus" event.
Businesses, churches, and community organizations gathered school supplies and brought them to Veteran's Memorial Park to fill two school buses. The supplies will be given out to needy children in the south Wood County area.
Organizers say the extra things needed for school can put a strain on an already tight budget for parents. Mary Schultz, a "Stuff the School Bus" committee member says it also helps the kids feel good about going to school. "They don't have to walk in saying, Oh, I don't have that and already set them apart from the other students that do, so this way they walk in with their school supplies and they're ready just like everyone else and they're excited for school."
The school supplies will be handed out at the "Stuff The Desk" event next Saturday, August 16th, at Lincoln High School. It runs from 8:00 AM until noon. If you would like to take part, you can register there. "Stuff the Desk" is open to students in the Wisconsin Rapids, Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Pittsville public and private schools.
