March 14th is the celebration of the mathematical number, pi. The infinite number is often shortened to 3.14 so students and mathematicians use the fourteenth day of March to honor it.

"We just wanted to take a break from the mundane every day math class," says Shannon Butalla, a math teacher at John Muir Middle School in Wausau.

The students at the middle school are singing songs about pi, eating pie and reciting digits in pi.

"I memorized pi by looking at the numbers from the sheet and memorize it," says Matthew Lee, a 7th grader at the middle school who memorized 54 digits. "It went through my head as a memory and it saved up like a memory chip."

The student from each of the teachers' classes who memorizes the most digits, gets to pie their teacher in the face.

Aside from all the festivities at the school, bakers are welcoming the business too.

"It's all set to go," says Nathalie Fladvid, a baker at 2510. "I made a lot of Irish mint pies so we'll be all ready. We'll be all stocked and ready to go."

Fladvid says 2510 makes an array of different pies. If you'd like a specialty made pie, you can contact them through the website linked to this story.

Fladvid also says the pecan pie is a favorite for 2510 guests. She also says it is very easy to make at home if you'd like to have one at your pi day party.
