Thursday’s storms caused significant damage across the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest prompting closure of some recreation sites.
Forest Service personnel began surveying the damage Thursday afternoon and are in the process of clearing trees, branches and debris from roadways, trails, campgrounds, and picnic areas.
As of Friday, Sept. 5 the following roads and recreation areas are closed until further notice. Please note that closure devices may not be in place at all access points along the Flambeau Trail, however, the entire system remains closed until it is safe to reopen.
Closures on the Medford-Park Falls District:
· Sailor Lake Road is closed south of Sailor Lake Picnic Area to Gates Lake Road
· Gates Lake Road is closed
· Flambeau Trail System is closed
· Sailor Lake Campground is closed
· Sailor Lake Picnic is closed
Some of these areas may have extended closures do to the amount of damage.
Closures on the Great Divide District:
· Forest Road 164 is closed
· Black Lake and Moose Lake campgrounds sustained major damage and crews are currently on site working to assess and clean-up the area.

Please use caution if visiting the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and traveling on Forest Service roads. Many trees and roads sustained significant damage as a result of the storms.
