By all accounts, it looks like it could be Thanksgiving morning outside a house on Elk Street in Stevens Point. Its snowing, cars from around the Midwest pack the driveway, and friends and family are gathered around the table. However this isn't Thanksgiving morning, instead its trivia weekend. Instead of gathering around a fireplace, guests are gathered around an old boom box from the 90's. Instead of turkey and mashed potatoes, their are bags of pistachios, cans of soda, and of course lots and lots of coffee. For trivia member Diane Knaust, this weekend truly is like a holiday.
"It is like Thanksgiving. We don't plan anything for the weekend. Once the schedule comes out its on our schedules. If it comes out five years in advance it is on our calenders." Knaust says.
This team has been going strong for over twenty years and now spans three generations. It began when friends Diane and Laura met in college, and the rest is history. Today Diane drives up from Central Illinois, Laura drives from Minneapolis, and just about everyone else makes the trip north from Milwaukee. For cousins Kay and Ali, its well worth the trip.
"We have been driving up together for a long time. We make kind of a big trip out of it and just have a good time." Kay says.
While today may not be a traditional holiday, for players across Central Wisconsin, trivia weekend is filled with as much fun as days like Thanksgiving and Easter. Perhaps most importantly, it gives them a chance to keep making memories one trivia question at a time.
