ORIGINAL STORY: Fri 3:21, May 2, 2014

The Portage County Sheriff's Department is crediting a neighbor with rescuing a fisherman Friday morning.

According to a press release, Lawrence Meixner, 64, of Stevens Point was fishing in his anchored boat near the County Highway HH boat landing when it flipped over. Meixner was able to hang onto the boat and was spotted by a neighbor.

Marilyn Flood was able to call 911. Her husband, Ron, used a neighbor's boat to pull him to safety.

The sheriff's department said Meixner was tired, but uninjured. He was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

Swift currents are to blame for the boat capsizing.
