Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the people at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stevens Point are getting into the holiday spirit, distributing 420 thanksgiving baskets to families in need.

Each basket came complete with all the Thanksgiving dinner essentials including turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie mix.

Organizer Jenny Worzella tells NewsChannel 7 the church started the program because they wanted to do something so families could have a Thanksgiving meal at home.

"It's wonderful," She gushes. "To see the thankfulness. To hear the, 'we won't see our family if we didn't have this box' or 'We weren't planning on spending time with our family, but now we will be,' those kinds of things. That's what's most important."

Local companies as well as members of the church congregation donated money for the meals. It took Worzella and a team of volunteers more than two months to plan. This is the fifth year for the event.
