MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State agricultural officials say they've reached a settlement with a Clark County farmer accused of slaughtering livestock without a license.

Arlin Bender slaughtered a farmer's injured cow last July in return for cash and the animal's hide. State investigators also claimed Bender was operating a meat processing operation at his home.

The state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says that under the settlement, Bender will pay more than $500 in civil forfeitures. Department spokesman Jim Dick tells the Journal Sentinel a temporary court injunction bars Bender from slaughtering livestock until he gets the proper license.
