UPDATE: Spencer Woman Killed in Collision with School Bus ID'ed

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department has identified the victim in Monday's crash as Teresa Cummins, 55, of Spencer.

President of Burnett Transit, Joe Burnett, issued a statement following the bus accident Monday morning:

"At approximately 6:58 a.m. this morning a school bus owned by Burnett Transit was involved in an accident on Highway 13 about one half mile north of the Village of Spencer. The school bus had just departed from the bus terminal for its morning school bus route about two minutes prior to the time of the accident. There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident. Road conditions were very icy at the time of the accident. According to preliminary reports the bus was traveling approximately 30 miles per hour, in a 55 mile per hour zone, when an on-coming vehicle slid across the center line and entered into the path of the bus. The driver of the bus was not injured. The single occupant of the vehicle that struck the bus has died as a result of the injuries they sustained in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the person who lost their life in the accident. A complete investigation of the accident is underway. We have no further comments at this time."

A 55-year-old Spencer woman has died after a collision with a school bus Monday morning around 7 a.m.

According to the Marathon County Sheriff's Department the crash happened on State Highway 13 north of E. LaSalle Street.

Ron Johnson, Regional Inspection Coordinator for the Department of Transportation said weather appears to have been a factor. The victim was traveling north on State Highway 13, the bus was heading south when they collided.

No children were on the bus at the time of the accident. The bus driver was transported to a Marshfield hospital.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.
