UPDATE: Snowshoer Suffered Fatal Heart Attack

The Marathon County Medical Examiner says the snowshoer found dead at Rib Mountain State Park suffered a heart attack. The victim has been identified as Mark Welsh.

ORIGINAL STORY: 3/13 at 7:17 a.m.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a 49-year-old man who had been snowshoeing at Rib Mountain State Park.

Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, dispatch received reports from two people who found the man along a snowshoe trail near the west end of the park. The man had been snowshoeing.

Rescue crews, including Rib Mountain fire, the Wisconsin State Patrol and member of the Granite Peak Ski Patrol found the man about thirty minutes later.
