According to a ski patrol volunteer, there are on average about 400 accidents on Granite Peak Ski Hill in Rib Mountain each year.
It's National Ski Safety Week.
Marie Traska says every skier and snowboarder should take lessons, stay on runs they're comfortable with, and always wear a helmet.
Granite Peak has about 100 ski patrol volunteers like Traska, always ready to spring into action on the slopes.
"Some days there are more accidents than others and some are relatively small incidents and some are more intense," Traska said. "We're here every day that the hill is open."
Fractures and sprains are the most common injuries, especially to the wrists and shoulders.
Traska says if you or a friend gets into trouble, send someone to the nearest chair lift. That person should notify a lift operator to call ski patrol for help.
