The suspect involved in a Madison shooting that killed one person Saturday morning is still at large and police are not sure whether that suspect is male or female.
The shooting happened about 9 a.m. on the city's east side in the parking lot of the Howard Johnson Hotel. The victim is a 46-year-old man. He was pronounced dead at the scene and he is not believed to be from the Madison area. Police said they believe the shooting occurred after a disturbance between the victim and suspect.
"The customer at the pump, was pumping gas and then right before he came in, I heard this pow, pow like a gunshot," said Linda, a Mobile Gas Station employee near the scene. "When he came in he also said 'I'm sure that's a gun shot.' Him and this other couple went out back and they looked down the parking lot and they saw a body on the ground."
Madison Police Chief Koval said they're looking into a car that was seen leaving the parking lot after the shots were fired. That vehicle is described as a 1998 Infiniti QX4 Sport Utility with Wisconsin plates that read 980WJN. Koval stresses that if you come across this car to not approach the vehicle and to call police.
