The public is invited to benefit dinner Thursday evening at the Marshfield American Legion benefiting the Sgt. Joseph Altmann memorial scholarship fund.
Twenty-seven-year-old Staff Sgt. Altmann died on December 25, 2011 in Kunar province. The military says he was hurt when insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire.
Doors open at 5 pm on Thursday, November 8. Dinner begins at 6 pm. Tickets are $10 per person, with all proceeds benefit a scholarship fund handled at Columbus Catholic High School in Marshfield.
Altmann was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks.
An employee at the American Legion says they expect 20-25 members of Altmann's family to attend.
The American Legion is located at 2100 South Maple Avenue in Marshfield.
