A jury trial got underway Monday for the former Athens girls basketball coach accused of sexually assaulting one of his players.
Rory McKellips, 56, faces felony charges of Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child, Exposing Genitals and Using a Computer to Facilitate a Child Sex Crime.
According to a criminal complaint, McKellips had sexual contact with the teenage girl three times in 2011. Police say he admitted to kissing the teen and giving her a cell phone to use.
McKellips coached girls basketball at Athens High School during the 2010-2011 school year. However, the charges against McKellips follow a long career of coaching. McKellips led Mosinee High School's girls basketball team from 1994 to 2008, with a state championship win in 2000.
The trial is expected to last five days.
