The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating how two teenagers got a hold of alcohol prior to being involving in a fatal accident.

On May 28, 18-year-old Jeffrey Smith Jr., was driving northbound on Hill Road when he failed to stop at stop sign and was struck by van traveling eastbound on Highway 64. Smith, the car’s driver, and one passenger, Jacob Arrowood, 17, were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The state patrol says both teens had alcohol in their system.

In total the car had five occupants; Dillion Sus and Dustin Bricko, both 18, were transported to a Wausau hospital by medical helicopter. Both Bricko and Sus are now out of the hospital. A fifth passenger, Matthew West Waldner, 17, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Antigo hospital.

The driver of the van and his 9-year-old grandson were not seriously injured.
