UPDATE: Cause of Fatal Wausau Crash Still Pending

Captain Ben Bliven from the Wausau Police Department says they're still waiting on drug toxicology tests taken from a driver who caused a fatal accident in Wausau on June 24.

Captain Bliven says they have received the alcohol toxicology back, which revealed the driver had not been drinking prior to the crash. Drug toxicology tests can typically take up to several months.

Initially, the Wausau Fire Department said the driver had a medical condition that led to the crash, however the Wausau Police Department says that has not been confirmed.

UPDATE: 6/25 at 4:32 p.m.

The Wausau Police Department has identified a woman killed in crash Monday as Frances M. Wilk, 85.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. on 17th Avenue in Wausau near Stewart Avenue.

Wilk's car was rear-ended a pushed under a box truck.

Police tell NewsChannel 7 the crash is still being investigated. The driver of the vehicle who rear-ended Wilk was questioned and released, but Police say because the investigation is ongoing, charges or citations have not been ruled out. A blood draw was taken, as part of standard operating procedure.

UPDATE: 6/24 at 2:43 p.m.

The Wausau Fire Department says an 85-year-old Wausau woman has died following an accident Monday morning.

Investigators initially believed the driver of an SUV suffered a medical condition and drove into a parked car at a high rate of speed. The chain reaction crash caused the victim's vehicle to crash into a box truck.

The woman was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The driver of the SUV was treated and released for his injuries. No charges are expected to be filed.

UPDATE: 6/24 at 11:34 a.m.

At least three vehicles are involved in a serious accident that prompted police to close the southbound lanes of 17th Avenue near Stewart Avenue in Wausau.

EMS crews were paged to respond to the accident just after 11 a.m. on Monday.

According to dispatch reports, a hit and run accident occurred at the stoplight at 17th Avenue and Elm Street, near Trig's. The driver in that accident could be involved in the more serious crash.

An air ambulance was paged to the scene. The number of people involved in the crash is unknown at this time.

Drivers are asked advised to stay away from the crash scene.

Our reporter at the scene says traffic is at a stand still and motorists are being detoured through the Starbucks and Shopko parking lots.
