Two men convicted of first degree reckless homicide in the August 2012 heroin of overdose death of a 20-year-old Marshfield woman are scheduled to be sentenced Friday in Wood County Circuit Court.
Kayla Vanderwyst was found dead at her home on August 20th, 2012. Six weeks after an autopsy was performed, investigators were notified that Vanderwyst had died of a heroin overdose.
Justin James Drinka, 23, of Marshfield and Trenton Joseph Blume, 25, of Unity were convicted of supplying heroin.
Court records show that Drinka told a detective he knew Vanderwyst died of a heroin overdose and that he provided the drugs. They also show that Blume told police he drove the three to Wausau to pick up the drugs before her death, and that he paid for them.
Blume is currently is in a Waupun prison. Drinka is in the Wood County Jail.
