The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department says the bicycle belonging to a 15-year-old girl reported missing Tuesday, was found Thursday near the Waukesha Memorial Hospital. The location is about nine miles from the girl's home.

During a press conference live-streamed by WISN-TV, Inspector Eric Severson said the family is “coping heroically” and shared that they are so grateful to everyone that is helping spread the word about their daughter's disappearance.

Severson said the case has become a very high priority because they are having a hard time finding a reason why Kathryn Stalbaum would not return home.

According to social media, there were rumors that Stalbaum may have went to Minnesota to visit her sister. Severson they have been in contact with the sister and detectives in Minneapolis and have ruled that theory out. Severson said he appreciates the powerful tool social media has become, but also encourages people to circulate only factual information so the department isn't “chasing shadows”. Severson said however, he does not want to discourage anyone with a tip to not call the sheriff's department, but asks that the information be immediately relayed to the sheriff's department and not be taken to social media.

Crime Stoppers is now offering a $1,000 reward to the person that can help bring Kathryn home.

Severson wanted to stress if Kathryn is watching she is not in trouble. He said there is nothing more her family wants than for her to come home.

The sheriff's department is asking businesses and homes in Waukesha with surveillance cameras to review the footage. Severson said a camera was not pointing to the area where Kathryn's bicycle was found.

Aerial searches have not been conducted as the department says right now they do not have an area to focus on, however, officers are continuing to go door-to-door questioning residents if they have scene anything.
