Preliminary autopsy results for a woman who died at an area hospital after missing for two days shows she died of natural causes.

The family of Alice Peterson, 64, said she went missing on August 19 and was found near Nekoosa on August 21 after she was found unconscious.

Peterson died the following day.

Wood County Deputy Coroner Charles Evans said initially they believed Peterson's death was suspicious, however the autopsy ruled that out. He said Peterson's diabetes played a contributing role in her death.

Peterson's family said she was without her medication when she went missing.

A 64-year-old woman who had been missing for two days in Adams County has died after first responders found her unconscious in wooded area near County Road G and Highway 54, northwest of Nekoosa.

A spokesperson for St. Joseph's hospital in Marshfield said Alice Peterson died Thursday night.

Authorities have released more information about where an Arkdale woman was found after she was reported missing.

Wood County Sheriff's deputies say Alice Peterson was found unconscious in a wooded area not too far from County Highway G and Highway 54.

Authorities say Peterson was located by tracking her cellphone.
She remains in critical condition at a Marshfield hospital.
Deputies say nothing looks suspicious.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department said a missing 64-year-old woman has been found.

Alice Peterson of Arkdale had been missing since Monday.

Wednesday afternoon she was located in a rural area of Port Edwards. She was found by First Responders searching an area where her vehicle was located.

She is currently being treated at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Her condition is not known at this time.

The Sheriff's Department said more details would be released Thursday in press released.

The search continues for a missing 64-year-old woman believed to be in Adams County.

Alice Peterson of Arkdale was last seen in Rome, Wisconsin around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The woman's daughter said her mom's cellphone was pinged near Nekoosa on Tuesday afternoon.

Alice maybe driving a light blue, 2-door Chevy Blazer with Wisconsin license plates 849HKP . She's described at 5'0, weight 118 lbs.

Alice's daughter said her mother is diabetic and left the house without her medications. It is possible Alice is in medical distress.
