UPDATE: Inmate Who Walked Away from Jail Now Back in Custody

UPDATE Thurs., June 12, 2014 3:13 a.m.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office reports an inmate who walked away from the jail is now back in custody.

Leif Huffman, 25 walked away after he was dropped off at the jail by his attorney after an appointment.

Deputies say Huffman was taken back into custody around 10:30 Wednesday night but would not elaborate on the nature or location of the arrest.

The Portage County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help locating a inmate who walked away from the jail.

Leif Huffman, 25, is described as 5'9'', 195 lbs, and having black hair, and brown eyes. The sheriff's department says he has a tattoo of biohazard symbol on his upper back, a tattoo of Grim Reaper on his upper right arm, and a Dragon on his lower right arm.

The Department said Huffman was dropped off at the Portage County Jail by his attorney after attending an appointment with him.

Investigators say Huffman was recently in court and convicted of multiple criminal offenses, including battery, intimidation of a witness, and strangulation/suffocation.

He was last seen Wednesday at 2:56 p.m. walking south on Elk Street from the jail.

He was wearing a baseball cap, blue/green t-shirt, blue jeans, and carrying a shopping bag of whites.
