School Spokesman: Threat Emeregency Handled Well

Posted: Fri 8:47 PM, Oct 05, 2012

A spokesman for the Wausau School District says staff members handled the threat emergency Friday exactly like they should have.

They followed proceedures established after the school shooting in Columbine, CO.

The student who got the threat went to an adult, which is a key part of disaster prevention at school.

Director of pupil services Jeff Lindell says, "it doesn't matter who it is, they have to have an adult they feel comfortable speaking to and that's what happened in this case."

Lindell says the kids, most of whom had no idea why there was a soft lockdown, will be offered counseling because dealing with the unknown can be very scary.

He also credits the school's close working relationship with the police department with helping to avert a tragedy.
