It was a scene that could have ended tragically. A man drove straight across the lawn of a house on E. Everest Ave. in Weston, missing the actual building by just inches. Instead, he turned, making almost a full circle back into the road before hitting a stop light in the intersection.
"I was sitting at my computer answering an email and I got a jolt," said homeowner Emma Hoffman.
A suburban plowed right through her mailbox early Thursday morning. The driver was an elderly man who police believe had a medical condition that contributed to the crash.
"Had he hit the house, actually, it would have hit exactly where I'm sitting, and probably missed me by four or five feet," she said.
Hoffman says at first she was quite upset that her entire yard was covered in tire tracks, but when she realized the man had no idea what had happened, she says she brought him inside her home and gave him a blanket and orange juice. Neither one was hurt in the incident. Hoffman called 911 right away. Everest Metro Police responded to the scene.
