For the third straight year, SPASH's season ends at the hands of Sun Prairie. This time, by a score of 5-3.
Sun Prairie beat the Panthers in the 2013 state title game, and in the semifinals in 2012.
The Panthers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd off an Aaron Winch triple. The Cardinals countered with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd, courtesy of a 2-out throwing error by shortstop Trevor Anderson.
It stayed that way until the 5th, when Michael Froelich had one of his three hits to drive in the tying run. And a Sun Prairie error allwed the Panthers to re-take the lead shortly after.
But the Panthers couldn't make it hold up. An error by third baseman Jake Slowinski allowed them to tie it at 3. Then Coby Oswalt hit a flare to center that fell between the second baseman Froelich and centerfielder Jon Barnes. Two runners scored off that giving Sun Prairie a 5-3 lead.
The Panthers had a chance in the top of the 7th. Putting the tying runs in scoring position with two outs, but Slowinski grounded back to the pitcher to end the ballgame.
The Panthers end their season at 26-3.
