Scammers looking to make a quick buck have been targeting people with a "paving scam" in Waushara County, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.
Within the past few months, there have been several reports of blacktopping companies offering to pave private driveways with material they have "left over" from another job. They're also claiming to be working with the Waushara County Highway Department--but the Sheriff's Office say that simply is not true.
Investigators say the scammers often perform "substandard work with substandard product."
They urge you always check with a reputable firm before you have any work done.
The Sheriff's Office and the County Corporation Council are looking at ways to take action in these situations.
