Rules and Regulations to Keep in Mind this Hunting Season

It's time to get that blaze orange ready, we're just days away from the start of the big 9-day gun-deer hunting season.

As you head out into the woods to take that trophy buck, there's some rules and regulations you need to keep in mind. Warden Mike Rader with the DNR stopped by Sunrise 7 on Monday to talk about them. He says first you need a gun-deer license. Make sure you wear blaze orange - you need to be covered in 50% blaze orange from the waist up. If you wear a hat that must be orange as well. You can't hunt within 50 feet of a road. It is also illegal to fire a gun within 100 yards of a home on land you do not own without permission.

There are also some new regulations too this season. Mike Rader says, "People can now hunt under the authority of their gun-deer license and use a crossbow. You can also use your archery equipment, a bow and arrow during the gun-deer season."

Keep in mind, the state's wolf hunt will still be going on at that time and the state's coyote hunting season. He says make sure you know the difference between the two... because only a certain number of hunters are allowed to harvest a wolf.

Breaking any one of the rules and regulations could cost you. Fines range from just a couple hundred bucks to thousands of dollars. Most importantly, though, stay safe and have fun!
