Lately it seems like Marathon County has had a wave of construction. That's because there are currently three major construction projects on Grand Ave, Highway 29 and Highway 51.
Sergeant Travis Wanless, with the Wisconsin State Patrol, said harsh winters can usually be tough on roads, and summer is the best time to get them back to normal.
"It's a busy construction season in Marathon County," said Wanless, "As many people that live in the area are aware."
But all that construction could lead to traffic during the busiest times of the day.
"Plan accordingly if you're leaving," said Wanless, "One thing we do provide for drivers is a 511 system... (people) can phone in and get details on where they're going, any construction projects that are going on or crashes that might have happened."
Matt Bronson, the project development chief for the Department of Transportation, said this years construction budget was pretty high for Wausau.
"Well right now we have about 65 million dollars worth of construction projects that we're gonna be starting in the Wausau area and Marathon County area over the summer," said Bronson.
The four major reasons for the construction is to widen roadways, add new bridges, improve pavement and most importantly improve safety on the highways.
According to the DOT, construction for each of the projects could take up to a year or more to complete, depending on weather conditions.
