A 30-year-old Rhinelander man is in serious condition at the UW Hospital in Madison after the sheriff's department says he was injured by a downed powerline.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department says it happened around 2 p.m. Thursday, in Town of Schley, northeast of Merrill.
The Town of Russell Fire Department was sent to State Rd 17 near Lecks Lane after motorists reported that a tree had become entangled in electrical wires and started on fire. When crews arrived they found the man seriously injured standing near the pole.
According to the report the deputy who investigated the incident suspects the man stopped to check the fire and was electrocuted by a downed wire.
