MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Some Wisconsin tax filers seeking a refund may be asked to complete a four-question quiz to confirm their identity and fight fraud.
The state Department of Revenue is using the quiz for the first time this tax season.
If selected, the tax filer will receive a letter describing how to take the multiple choice quiz either over the phone or online. In some cases, the taxpayer will be asked to provide documentation to the Revenue Department to help verify their identity.
Revenue Department Secretary Richard Chandler says the quiz is one way the department is working to prevent identity theft and fraud. More information about the program is provided on the Revenue Department's website.
