Believe it or not, baseball season is almost here at Athletic Park in Wausau... as soon as construction finishes up.
Phase one of the renovation adds luxury box seats, a new team store and seats as close as fans can get.
"Seats we're really excited about are 4-top tables that are 35 feet from home plate," General Manager Ryan Treau said, "which is closer than the pitcher, so you'll be able to get a lot of great action there."
Another aspect of the renovation is not inside the stadium at all. The Woodchucks purchased two homes nearby and donated the land to the City of Wausau.
"For 36 home games it'll be a park that we can utilize for events, but other than that," Treu said, "they'll have slides on the playground like a regular neighborhood park to give back to the neighborhood on this side of the area."
They hope this will bring a great experience for both baseball fans and the community.
"Not everybody enjoys baseball or can sit and watch baseball for 9 innings," Treu said, "so you have to creat an experience for everyone to enjoy the night so that's why we do that."
