The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department has released the name of a 41-year-old man who died after being hit by a car Saturday morning.
Police say at 12:30 p.m., they responded to the report of a car vs. bicyclist accident on 8th Street South at Pepper Avenue. The cyclist, Shawn Hill was critically injured and died at an area hospital.
The driver, Emil Taschner, 75, was not injured.
According to a press release, police say based on witness statement and evidence at the scene. Hill was westbound on the sidewalk on Pepper Ave, and crossed into the intersection and was struck by Taschner.
Police say this intersection has stop-lights and also the pedestrian “walk” signal. Police say the “walk” button was not pressed. Police say Taschner was at a red light, the but the red light was at the end of it's cycle. Police say the light for Taschner was green when he struck Hill.
Police have not said if any charges will be filed.

Wisconsin Rapids Police have confirmed that a bicyclist has been killed in a traffic accident.
Around 12:31pm, the Wisconsin Rapids Police responded to the accident on 8th Street South at Pepper Ave in Wisconsin Rapids.
The injuries to the 41-year-old Wisconsin Rapids bicyclist were severe and although he was transported to Riverview Hospital by ambulance, he died from the severity of his injuries, police say.
The 75-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured. Wisconsin State Troopers are reconstructing a diagram of the scene. The accident remains under investigation, but alcohol and speed are not factors in the accident according to a press release sent to NewsChannel 7.
