Update:

One local Humane Society hit hard by the propane crisis is saying thank you to the generous donors who have helped to keep the building warm for animals and humans alike.

The Waupaca County Humane Society relies on propane to heat their facility.
With propane prices soaring to above $4 a gallon, staff was worried they would not be able to handle the added expense.
Luckily, since our story first aired last week, humane society staff says they have gotten nearly $2,000 worth of donations.
They say that thanks to the donations, the shelter should be able to afford propane through the spring as long as they continue to conserve.

During the cold snap, many of us are trying to find alternative ways to heat our homes because of the propane crisis. But we are not the only ones.

The Humane Society of Waupaca County relies mostly on propane to heat their facility. While managers say they are not in crisis mode yet, they are trying to prepare for a shortage.

The humane society houses about a dozen dogs and more than 80 cats. Since so many animals live there, they need to keep the air moving to maintain air exchange and keep the animals healthy.

The operations manager said they have enough propane to last three to four weeks.

"In an effort to stretch that out, we have moved, consolidated animals into rooms so that we could close off a couple of large rooms in the building," said Monica Gardner, Operations Manager, "and just minimally heat those so that the water pipes and stuff don't freeze."

Since the humane society is a non-profit organization, they are looking for donations to help with the cost of propane.
