Parents and students who attended Adams-Friendship High School's parent teacher conferences Thursday night also got a lesson in how to protect themselves against sex crimes.
A Representative from the Department of Corrections was on hand to teach those in attendance how to use the state's online sex offender database. It allows people to access information about registered sex offenders living in their area.
Sex Offender Registration Specialist Valerie Santana led the presentation. She says it is important for people to make use of the technology in order to stay safe.
"Sex offenders are really nothing new, they have always been in the community. What is fairly new is our ability to disseminate that information to the public through the sex offender registry website." Santana says.
The evening also featured a presentation for younger children on how to avoid dangerous situations involving strangers.
