For Max Reichert, powerlifting is in his DNA.

"My first meet I went to was two months before I was born. My Mom said that I would kick whenever the crowd applauded" Said Max.

And he is quick to tell you his sport is not what you assume.

"Olympic lifting everything is pretty much with the weight up over your head. That's not what we do"

Powerlifting consists of three components...bench press, squat and dead lifts. Max is getting ready for the World Competition in Prague...but he isn't training alone.

"Ever since he was little I said I know how to do this, I can teach you this. But, you have to decide that it's something you want to do" Said Gary Reichert, Max's father.

After a twist of fate Gary will also be competing in Prague in the World Open Competition. After three retirements from the sports his son's competitive edge has ignited him to give it another shot..

"Getting to the point where he started coming up again I started to get the fire back" Gary added.

They depart for their trip in late October, marking another chapter in this father and son duo's memory book. Which, Gary hopes doesn't end here.

"Right now were having an opportunity to have some really cool adventures together. Which is something that when I am dust will be something he will remember and hopefully have the same opportunity for his kids."

Maybe Max is right...powerlifting may not be what we assume. Who knew there would be such a special bond in between all that metal and sweat?
