June is the best time for Summer traveling, but you'll need to be extremely careful on the roads in our area. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has ranked June as the worst month for deer involved crashes. In fact, Shawano County is ranked the third highest in the state.
"The most time to be weary would be early morning or late evening," said Lt. Steve Krueger, with the Wisconsin State Patrol, "The deer move early morning and late evening...(and) we're dealing with less light."
Krueger warns if you see one deer on the side of the road always assume there are more, and never ever swerve.
"If you happen to see a deer," said Krueger, "The best thing you can do is break, hit the breaks hard."
Always remember to drive the speed limit, and avoid all distractions.
