The United States Postal Service announced Wednesday that it will stop delivering mail on Saturdays come August. It's a move that will save the Postal Service nearly $2 billion a year and allow them to focus on package delivery, which they say is increasing, versus the delivery of letters and other mail which is decreasing.

Recent Public opinion polls show that the majority of Americans support the change as a way to save money. But some people in our area are concerned it will lead to more drastic changes in the future.

"This is just the beginning of the downsizing of the postal service which I think is a crucial aspect of American life," Anthony Jodlowski told NewsChannel 7.

But the younger generation doesn't seem to think so.

"I don't think it will affect me just because I'm not paying like bills all the time and things like that and I do everything online," 19-year old Vanessa Larson said.

The post office will still deliver packages on Saturday and post offices that currently have Saturday hours will stay open. Saturday mail delivery will end the week of August 5th.
