The second annual Wintervergnügen Pond Hockey Classic returns to the ice of Shadow Lake Saturday, January 25th.
Eleven teams will be competing against the winter elements as well as their opponents. The 4-on-4 tournament offers each team the opportunity to play a minimum of three games as they vie for the opportunity to be the next Wintervergnügen Pond Hockey Classic Champion. Games begin at 9am with the championship game scheduled for 4pm.
To host the tournament, local volunteers have creating four 150’ x 75’ rinks on Shadow Lake just off the shore of Lower South Park in Waupaca. For the comfort of players and spectators, a heated food and beverage tent will be available on the ice.
In addition to the pond hockey tournament, kayak sledding and snow shoe demos will be available from 11am – 1pm in the park and the Waupaca Wrestling Ice Fishing Jamboree will also be on Shadow Lake from 6am – 4pm. In the evening, area residents and visitors can head out to Hartman Creek State Park for the annual candlelight trail night with cross country ski, snow shoe and hiking trails illuminated by candlelight.
