CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- Chippewa Falls police are urging inner-tubers not to float down the Chippewa River in the Frenchtown Annual Tube Float And Regatta, known as FATFAR.

Police say high water levels from recent rains have resulted in a very fast current, and Sunday's forecast included a possibility of more rain and thunderstorms.

The department urges anyone choosing to float down the river to use extreme caution. It says rescue times for floaters in distress could exceed 15 minutes, and drowning is a very real possibility.

The Chippewa Falls Fire Department says it appears lighting caused a house fire in the Village of Lake Hallie. The owner heard a loud crack of thunder about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and found the fire about three hours later. The fire was confined to the attic area.
