Police Investigate Bomb Threat at Stratford Schools

The Stratford Police Department is investigating a bomb threat that prompted an evacuation of the elementary, middle and high school. Just after 1 pm Tuesday, a student told a school employee he found a handwritten note in a urinal.

In an email to parents, the district says, At 1:05 we found a note in one of our buildings suggesting a bomb at 2 pm. We evacuated both buildings between 1:40-1:45pm. Authorities were contacted and checked the building.

In the meantime, students were taken to St. Joseph's next door and Zion, two blocks away.

Stratford Police Chief Korey Schillinger says the Marathon County Bomb Squad did x-rays and multiple searches of the lockers and classrooms but found nothing. At this time they are hoping the person responsible comes forward.

Parents were able to pick their kids up from the school shortly after the evacuation. Students could not leave in their cars until the bomb squad finished its inspection of the school parking lot.

The entire area was cleared by 3:45 p.m. All evening activities were cancelled Tuesday. School will resume as scheduled on Wednesday.
