It might not be what you had in mind for New Year's morning, jumping into a frigid lake. But for dozens of brave, and, they admit, a little crazy, folks in Nekoosa, it was a great way to spend the holiday.
Men and women jumped into Lake Petenwell at Lune's Bar and Grill Wednesday afternoon, to help raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. Despite the chilly water, organizers say everything they raise goes to a great cause.
"The money doesn't go to just cover doctor bills or anything, they use that money to help the families of the children in ways that you wouldn't think of," said Morgan Vanderhei, "they make their lives as normal as they can even though they have to be in the hospital."
The Children's Miracle Network helps families with things like Christmas gifts. So if parents of children in the hospital do not have enough time to buy and wrap gifts, the network can help make their Christmas feel as normal as possible.
