Phelps Maple Syrup Tour held April 5-6

The 2nd Annual Phelps Maple Syrup Tour will be held April 5 and 6. It was started by a group of town citizens that wanted to educate and introduce people from all over about the long standing history of syrup production in our town.

Organizers say the free educational, hands-on, family-oriented event celebrates the Northwoods art of making 100-percent pure maple syrup.

The tour begins Friday evening at Holiday Lodge and includes acoustic guitar music by local artist Bill Wilkinson and the crowning of our Maple Syrup Princess.

On Saturday, a gourmet breakfast will be offered at Phelps School and will feature a wide variety of maple products. After breakfast there will be instruction on how to identify maple trees, using tools and equipment and a tree taping demonstration. Everyone is encouraged to ask a lot of questions and participate in the hands-on demonstration. Organizers say it's a big hit with kids.

Later in the day there will be a free guided tour of local maple syrup producers. We call these locations "sugar bushes" and they come in all shapes, sizes and colors. You will experience everything from small operators that produce just enough for their own use to large scale producers and everything in between.

Applications are still being except for the Maple Syrup Princess. For an application click here.
