Plover's Joe Pavelski and Team USA hockey took to the ice this morning for what was thought to be a decent matchup with Slovakia to start olympic play.
The U.S. with a 6-goal onslaught in the 2nd period on their way to a 7-1 rout of Slovakia.
Pavelski with 4 shots on goal in this one, but no points for the SPASH grad.
Next up for the Americans is a big one against host Russia, Saturday morning at 6:30 local time.
At Arbuckles in Stevens Point, friends and family gathered to watch Pavelski and Team USA, including his parents, Mike & Ssandy, and his grandmother among others.
Joe's parents were able to attend the Vancouver games 4 years ago, but stayed back this year for various reasons, including safety concerns.
After watching Thursday's game, momma Pavelski says bring on the Russians.
