Panel Extends Wis. Concealed Carry Rules

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Legislature's rules committee has agreed to extend temporary regulations that enacted Wisconsin's concealed carry rules through mid-October.

The state Justice Department drafted the rules last year. The regulations require permit applicants to obtain weapons training but don't lay out any specific requirements.

The rules were set to expire Saturday. DOJ officials asked the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules to extend them another 60 days while they craft permanent rules.

DOJ Executive Assistant Steven Means told the panel Thursday the agency has submitted the permanent rules to Gov. Scott Walker for his approval. The committee voted unanimously to grant the extension, ensuring the temporary rules will remain in place until Oct. 16.
