It’s the time hunters have been waiting for since last winter, deer season. And with the open of archery season this weekend, we stopped to check out how hunters are doing so far.
The time is finally here, for you to get back out and take that deer you have dreamed of. That’s just what a few hunters we spoke with say they did this weekend.
Sunset Country Store says they have seen more deer, and bigger deer for that matter, come in this weekend than they had anticipated.
Sunset Country Store Clerk, Gina Erdman says this early rush was a nice surprise. "We had a couple 10 pointers in this weekend. With the warm weather I didn’t expect it at all." She says they have already had dozens of people check their deer in this season.
One thing Erdman says hunters have been saying, they are seeing more deer out than usual, a strange occurrence with the warm weather we have had.
That particular weigh station says they will see their biggest numbers of tags come in once gun season starts, that’s when most hunters take to the woods.
The DNR says hunting this time of year is more of a time for people to get used to stands, set up trail cameras, and are making sure their stands and equipment are safe.
The newly restructured Wisconsin bow season goes until January this year, allowing archery hunters more time to hunt than most years.
